At last night’s Center Township Supervisors meeting, several people spoke out about an auto salvage yard that they say violated a township ordinance.
Complaints about the salvage yard on Old Route 119 were heard last night, ranging from the site being an eyesore to loud noises to environmental concerns, and some have said that the scrap yard was operating illegally. Supervisors have been in contact with their solicitor, Michael J. Supinka, and he said that his interpretation of a township ordinance showed that the owner, Joseph Shimko, has already applied for a license with PennDOT and meets the qualifications for operating a junk or scrap yard business according to the township ordinance. Shimko was present during the meeting said that they are taking care of some of the concerns, including putting a fence up to block the view, and they worked with the Department of Environmental Protection.
In other business, Supervisors chairman David Smyers said they are taking advantage of the unseasonably warm conditions to work on some other drainage issues done, and it’s helping them in the long run.
Also, the township received the resignation of their office and restroom cleaning person. They are currently looking for someone to take over those duties, which would amount to 10-15 hours a month. Those interested are asked to call the Township Offices for more information.
