For the first time in history, Pennsylvania will open rifle deer hunting season on a Saturday.
The season begins today and runs until Saturday, December 12, and the Pennsylvania Game Commissions says that it “packs another new twist that will generate excitement.” One twist highlights a regulatory change that now allows hunters to harvest a second deer before tagging the first, as long as appropriate tags are used and no attempt is made to move a deer before it is tagged.
In Indiana County, which represents Wild Management Units 2D, 2E and a small portion of 2C, hunters will have a 14-day period where antlered and antlerless hunting will run concurrently.
In addition to the Saturday opening day, Sunday, November 29 will also be open for deer hunting. This is the only Sunday scheduled during the season.
The Game Commission reminds area hunters that all deer hunters statewide must wear a minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange material on their head, chest and back during the season, and additional information on the hunting period can be found by clicking the link to the official press release which you can find below.
