Several power outages have been reported over the last two weeks in the northern parts of Indiana County, and an energy distributor has issued a statement about those outages.
REA Energy Cooperative announced that members in the Georgeville Substation area of northern Indiana County, including the areas of Ambrose, Plumville, Smicksburg, Rossmoyne, and Trade City, have gone through some power outages due to loss of power from the local transmission company. The cooperative said that as an energy distributor, they do not generate or transmit their own power, and they don’t have control over the transmission company’s outages.
In a statement, the cooperative said they understand the frustration felt by their members in the area, but they are working with the transmission company and local politicians to solve the problem.
We reached out to Penelec and the company’s representative said that the outages were due to a sensor that cuts power when the line encounters trouble. The sensor will be repaired, but it is not known when that will be. Until that time, the sensor has been disengaged.
