Four fire departments were dispatched for a report of a structure fire that turned out to be a false alarm Tuesday afternoon.
The initial call went out at 4:48 PM along Route 210 in South Mahoning Township. Marion Center, Plumville, Dayton and Rural Valley fire departments and the RIT team were dispatched at the time, according to Indiana County 911. Marion Center fire officials reported on the department’s Facebook page that the caller had seen heavy black smoke. The call turned out to be a false alarm as the property owner was conducting a controlled burn.
Marion Center fire officials say that those who are planning on performing a controlled burn are reminded to contact Indiana County’s Emergency Management Agency on their non-emergency line at 724-349-1428 to give a heads-up to dispatchers about the controlled burn.
Indiana County first responders also dealt with two reports of utility lines down Tuesday afternoon. One call was at 2:51 PM along North Ben Franklin Road in White Township. Indiana Fire Company 4 was called to the scene. The other call was at 4:09 PM as lines were reported down along Route 259 in Brush Valley Township. Brush Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Citizens’ Ambulance and State Police were dispatched.
