Excela Health and Butler Health System will now be known as Independence Health System.
According to a news release, the name means some important distinctions for the new system, including the scope of services provided and clinical programs that are locally based and controlled. Chief Marketing and Communications officer Thomas Chakurda says that it will give the group a solid identity moving forward.
He added that the name also makes sure people know that they have a more local choice for health care needs other than the major two providers out of the Pittsburgh region.
Independence Health System includes Excela Hospitals in Latrobe and Greensburg, along with hospitals in Butler, Clarion and Frick. The merger was made official on January 1st of this year. With 7300 employees, over 1000 physicians and advanced practice providers, Independence is the third largest health care provider in Western Pennsylvania.
