State Senator Joe Pittman has released some information on a scam that is targeting those licensed through Pennsylvania’s health related boards.
Officials are saying that the scammers are pretending to be with the Department of State’s health-related licensing boards and are calling both active and inactive licensees, claiming that the license they have is suspended due to allegations of criminal activity. To make the call look legitimate, the scammers are spoofing the state board’s phone number and name on caller ID.
People are reminded that someone who actually represents the board will not contact you by phone and ask for credit card or checking account information, nor will they ask you to make a wire transfer of money, or request that payment be made using a gift card.
If you receive one of these calls, you are to hang up and report it to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.
