The suspect involved in the robbery of a Downtown Indiana convenience store was sentenced to serve time in state prison this morning.
Court documents say 54-year-old Joseph Frances Hamay was ordered to serve 120 months to 20 years in state prison by Judge Michael Clark. The charges stem from April 6th when he demanded cash while brandishing a knife inside the store. Police used surveillance footage from the store and discarded clothing to identify him, and they caught up with him the next day in White Township.
Hamay pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery with the threat of serious injury, but five other charges connected with the incident were not prosecuted.
Also sentenced was 26-year-old of William Tifa of Newark, New Jersey, who will serve 18 to 60 months in state prison for a charge of aggravated assault stemming from an incident at Saltsburg Pharmacy on March 15.
Tifa tried to pick up a falsified prescription that was phoned into the pharmacy, but when he came to pick it up, Saltsburg Borough Police were on hand. A fight ensued and he bit an officer on the arm. He broke free from the police, but he was quickly recaptured.
