The Pirates three-game winning streak ended last night as Quinn Priester and the pitching staff got roughed up and the Bucs offense failed again. Greg Brown recaps the loss.
Manager Derek Shelton says Quinn Priester wasn’t as good last night as he’s been lately, but then no one was for the Pirates.
Shelton says Priester, who usually is able to get opponents to hit the ball on the ground, let the Angels put the ball in the air last night, and he’s still learning.
Priester says his mental approach wasn’t the greatest.
The series concludes this afternoon at PNC Park. Left-hander Martín Pérez [1-2, 3.15 ERA] pitches for the Pirates against Angels righty Jose Soriano [1-4, 3.77 ERA]. It’s a 12:10 airtime, 12:35 first pitch on WCCS.
In his return to the Indianapolis lineup, catcher Henry Davis went 0-for-3 last night in a 6-2 loss to Louisville. Davis hit only .162 with the Pirates before being demoted last weekend to find his swing.
Altoona opened their series with Somerset with an 8-1 loss. Braxton Ashcraft pitches for the Curve tonight at 6 o’clock.
