Blairsville Borough Council approved implementing a $4 drought surcharge on the Municipal Authority’s December bill at their meeting Tuesday night.
Councilman Ab Dettorre said the charge came as a result of the borough using high levels of water from High Ridge Water Authority over the year, which cost the Municipal Authority approximately $56,000 that needs to be made up. He did say an alternative option was explored to drive down the cost.
In other business, council approved the 2025 budget, which balances at $2.46 million and contains a one mil tax increase for borough residents. No changes were made to the draft that was advertised last month.
Council also accepted, with regret, the resignation of Public Works Manager Dave Fairman. A search is underway to find his replacement and no deadline has been set to fill the position.
