It was a cold, wet miserable night for the Pirates and Brewers and their fans at PNC Park, with Milwaukee grabbing a win in the first game of a four-game set. Joe Block has the recap.
In tonight’s second game of the series, Paul Skenes [3-5, 2.44 ERA] takes the mound for the Pirates against Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta [5-3, 2.59 ERA]. Airtime is 6:15, first pitch at 6:40 on WCCS.
General manager Ben Cherington yesterday dismissed rumors that the Pirates would trade Paul Skenes. No matter how badly the season has gone, he still thinks he has the makings of a winner, and trading Skenes isn’t the answer.
Cherington says there’s a lot of baseball to play between now and the trade deadline on July 31st. He’s hoping the Bucs step up before then.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona was rained out for the second straight night in Akron. The Curve will play a doubleheader today and another one on Sunday to make up for the two missed games.
