With Sidney Crosby on their team, the expectation was that the Canadians would win the IIHF World Championship Tournament, but it was the Americans who pulled it off. For the first time in 92 years, Team USA won the gold medal, as Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson wristed in the game-winner in overtime for a 1-0 win over Switzerland yesterday. West Mifflin native Logan Cooley assisted on the goal. Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves in the shutout.
Team USA last won the world championship in 1933.
