Authorities hope that new technology can help identify a woman killed in a vehicle crash in Fayette County on May 2nd, 1986.
The woman, known only as Jane Doe, was killed in Springhill Township, about 15 miles south of Uniontown. She was a passenger in a tractor-trailer truck when it rolled over on US Route 119. The driver of the truck was also killed. The truck was scheduled to go from Sparrow’s Point, Maryland to Richmond, Kentucky, but it was not known why it was in Pennsylvania. Authorities also say that she was not with the driver when he left Sparrow’s Point, leading investigators to believe she may have been hitchhiking.
Her body was exhumed from her grave in Uniontown on Monday and taken to the Indiana County Coroner’s office, according to Fayette County DA Mike Aubele. Forensic anthropologists have prepared DNA samples for entry into a DNA database to try to identify her with any missing persons cases.
