Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate held steady in the month of May.
The state department of Labor and Industry said the rate remained unchanged over the month at 3.9%, which is lower than the nation’s unemployment rate at 4.2%. The Commonwealth’s unemployment rate was three-tenths of a percentage point above the May 2024 level of 3.6%.
The state’s civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of people working or looking for work, went down 4000 over the month to 6.545 million. The total number of non-farm jobs went up 2000 to 6.223 million, marking the 13th consecutive month at record high-levels. Jobs increased in four of the 11 industry super sectors, with leisure and hospitality seeing the biggest movement. That area saw an increase of 2500 jobs over the month.
