The football world mourns the death of Jimmy Joe Robinson, Pitt’s first Black varsity player. The Connellsville native passed away Monday at age 97.
Robinson played running back at Pitt in 1945, ’47 and ’48 before being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 1950 NFL Draft. His career was interrupted by his service in the Korean War. He played for the Steelers in 1953 and later for Montreal in the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union in Canada. After football, he became a minister.
