Joseph Lee Gerber 56, of Home, unexpectedly died at his home on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Born, December 15, 1969 in Indiana, PA, he was a son of Lois (Pizer) Gerber of Indiana and the late Gary L. Gerber.
Joe was a 1987 graduate of Indiana Area High School. He had most recently been employed by PennDot where he worked on road maintenance. He had previously worked as a truck driver.
He was a very hardworking man who had a loving and caring soul. It was said that he would do anything to help those in need and that he was the type of guy who would give you the shirt off of his back. He was a devoted husband and step-father who dearly loved his family. He married Amy E. Brown on August 24, 2018.
Joe loved old cars but his favorite was his 1986 Olds Cutlass. He was a good cook, lasagna was one of his specialty dishes and he made it every Christmas Eve. Christmas was one of his favorite times of the year. He enjoyed traveling, playing goofy golf, video gaming, playing with remote control cars, working with wood and listening to “Hair Band’ music from the 80’s. He also liked going to his step-grandson’s games, Blake Fairman.
In addition to his wife and mother, Joe will be missed by his step-children: Courtney Fairman and husband, Jess of Clyde and Nicholas Empfield of Home, PA. Other survivors include his siblings: Tammy L. Gerber and her companion, Ryan Sikora of Colorado and Michael A. Gerber and his wife, Colette of DuBois. Other surviving family members include: step-grandchildren, Blake Fairman and Jaxon Empfield; nephews, Tyler Gerber and his wife, Katelyn and Colton Gerber; and step-nieces, Paige and Peyton Dushac.
Visitation hours will be held Saturday, March 7th from 2 to 4 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory in Indiana, where his memorial service will begin at four o’clock. Rev. Bob Dunsmore will officiate. Online condolences may be made by visiting: rbfh.net .
