The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is announcing grant funding for efforts to support five local canoe and kayak access projects. Among them us a $5000 grant award for the Little Mahoning Creek area.
The group announced the money will go towards the Ken Sink Trout Unlimited project and the Kayak Public Access Site at the creek that runs through Smicksburg. Other projects that received $5000 grants include areas of Somerset, Cameron, Jefferson and Elk Counties. Kelly Horrell, watershed conservation program administrator at the Conservancy, says the fund provides technical assistance for all aspects of project development, including helping a group decide on a site location and assisting with the permit process.
The conservancy is asking for grant applications for the next round of the Canoe Access Development Fund Grants. The application can be found on their website.
