The Pirates found themselves with a 5-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the seventh inning and they fought their way back into the game, but came up just short on a deep fly ball.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Donnie Kelly thought the Pirates were going to win.
Kelly admired the way the Pirates fought to get back in the game.
The series concludes this afternoon with the Cardinals looking for a four-game sweep. Paul Skenes [4-1, 2.48 ERA] looks to play the stopper role against Hunter Dobbins, who is making his season and Cardinals’ debut. Dobbins tore his ACL making a play for the Red Sox last season and has been working his way back to the big leagues with the Cardinals’ Louisville Triple-A team. Airtime is 12:10, first pitch at 12:35 on WCCS.
JARED GOES SUPERSONIC
Pretty safe to say Jared Jones was fired up for his first rehab start since elbow surgery last May. Jones threw three perfect innings yesterday for Bradenton, striking out five, tossing 41 pitches, eight of them over 100 miles per hour, and one at 101.1.
ALTOONA
Altoona was rained out yesterday. They’ll make up the game against Richmond as part of a doubleheader tomorrow at 5 PM. Today, they will play an Education Day game at 11 AM
