As expected, voter turnout for Tuesday’s primary election was low according to county figures.
The unofficial election results showed 23.3% of Indiana County’s registered voters cast a ballot yesterday. Many of the races were already determined as there were several positions that went unopposed. Two races on Indiana County’s Republican ballots were contested. The first was the Lt. Governor nomination. John Ventre carried the county with 3,157 votes compared to Jason Richey’s 2,048. Across the state was a different story, with Richey carrying the state with over 421,000 votes compared to Ventre’s close to 222,000.
The other contested race was for Republican State Committee. Kimberly McCullough and James Zerfoss received the most votes, with Zerfoss receiving 3,938 votes and another 3,326 votes cast for McCullough. Darlene Bracken was in third with 2,126 votes.
All results are unofficial until county election officials certify the votes, which could take a week or two.
