Matt Ager was outstanding for the Altoona Curve on Saturday night, but Portland still won the game, 3-2 in ten innings.
Ager threw seven innings, at one point retiring ten straight batters before an infield single in the seventh. He struck out five and gave up just three hits, a walk, and one run on a sacrifice fly.
Curve batters struggled against rehabbing Boston Red Sox starter Patrick Sandoval, who struck out seven over five scoreless innings. Altoona took the lead on a two-run home run by Ryan McCarty in the eighth inning, but the Sea Dogs tied it, 2-2, in the bottom of the inning. Portland won the game on an RBI infield single by Ahbram Liendo in the tenth inning.
The six-game series concludes tonight in Portland.
