The Steelers were cracking the pads at St. Vincent yesterday and will be back at it today, but the session today will be closed to both fans and the media.
Coach Mike McCarthy says the physical work up front will be especially helpful for him in evaluating his offensive line. He is looking for versatile players who can move around on the O-line.
There’s been a lot of attention this season to the brisk pace, which is very much unlike the Mike Tomlin training camps. McCarthy says he doesn’t like to have guys standing around and getting only one rep during a drill when they can pick up the pace and get five or six reps on camera to measure progress.
McCarthy upped the tempo even more when he switched up the background music to the Monday Night Football theme and called for a surprise drill. It’s something he calls a “mojo moment”, and it gives him a chance to increase the intensity.
The Steelers placed wide receiver Cole Burgess on injury waivers yesterday after he was carted off the field Monday with a leg injury. They signed wide receiver Jakobie Keeney-James, who was in the Green Bay and Detroit organizations last year after going undrafted in the 2025 draft.
