After their narrow road win at Shippensburg on Saturday, IUP has risen to number eleven in the nation in the new AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, and to number seventeen in the D2Football.com Top 25.
Kutztown remained at number three in the AFCA poll and number four in D2Football.com. Slippery Rock is number ten in AFCA, number eleven in D2Football. Shepherd received votes in the AFCA poll but did not crack the Top 25.
Ferris State is number one in both polls.
IUP added two more PSAC West Player of the Week honors yesterday.
Running back Leon Parson is the Co-Offensive Player of the Week with Slippery Rock running back Jay-Jay Jordan.
Parson had 19 carries for 187 yards and a touchdown against Shippensburg, plus a 17-yard touchdown catch and three kickoff returns for 54 yards.
Linebacker Tai-Don Strickland is the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week for his nine tackles against Ship, seven of them unassisted, two for a loss, and one sack.
IUP will play its home opener Saturday at Miller Stadium against Seton Hill.
