Blairsville fire and police departments were called out for a school bus that caught fire on Route 22 at 7:45 this morning.
Initial scanner reports said that the incident was in the westbound lanes of Route 22. Blairsville Police Chief Lou Sacco said that the fire started in the battery compartment on the bus from Smith Bus Company. The driver was able to pull off the road across from Dean’s Diner and get out safely. There were no students on board at the time. Fire crews were able to put the fire out and the bus was pulled to a nearby parking lot to get out of the way.
Crews were on the scene for about 45 minutes to an hour. No one was hurt.
