The Blairsville Municipal Authority will receive state funding through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, also known as PENNVEST.
The grant and loan for Blairsville is part of $190.3 million that will be distributed to 24 projects across 19 Pennsylvania counties that will focus on drinking water, wastewater and non-point source projects across the state. PENNVEST Executive Director Robert Boos called the low-cost financing “one of the most effective tools Pennsylvania municipalities have for tackling the rising costs of water infrastructure.” He added that local communities will be empowered to replace aging system and protect public health and invest in long-term resilience.
The Blairsville Municipal Authority has received a $2,501,213 grant and a $93,787 loan to replace about 122 service connections onsisting of galvanized pipe formerly attached to, and located downstream of, water mains containing lead goosenecks and other lead components in the Borough of Blairsville and in Burrell Township. The work will include excavation, backfill, and restoration.
