Flu activity continues to increase across Pennsylvania, but not as rapidly as earlier in the season.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported an increase of 14,846 flu cases for the week ending March 1st, bringing the statewide total to 187,117 cases. The percentage of statewide emergency room visits resulting in influenza diagnoses is decreasing for all ages state-wide but it’s still high for the age groups infant to age 5 and five- to 24-year-olds. 585 flu deaths have been reported across the state, a jump of 132 from the previous week.
As of February 22nd, new hospital admissions for flu were high for both pediatric and adult patients and increasing for adult patients.
In Indiana County, 582 lab-confirmed flu cases have been reported. That’s an increase of 74 cases from the previous week.
For RSV, 41,191 lab-confirmed cases were reported this year so far, which is an increase of 1,438. 102 cases of RSV were reported in Indiana County, which is an increase of five from the previous week.
