The Indiana Indians baseball team has played a lot of extra baseball lately and it’s earned them a return trip to the PIAA 4A state championship game this Friday. But all that extra baseball has earned them something extra.
According to Mark Byers, Associate Executive Director of the PIAA, Indiana’s 17-inning marathon semifinal win over East Pennsboro Monday and Tuesday was a state tournament record for innings played in one game. The previous longest game in the PIAA tournament, by innings, was 15.
And here’s something extra: In six playoff games, indiana has played 63 innings, an average of 10.5 innings per game. The Indians have played 21 extra innings, the equivalent of three games.
That’s a lot of extra baseball, and they have more to go.
Listen to WDAD FM 100.3 and AM 1450 this Friday for Indiana (25-1) vs District 4 champion Montoursville in the PIAA 4A State Championship Game. Airtime is 1 pm (subject to change) with Pat Dougherty.
