As summer approaches, so does summer pool season, but it will be difficult to find a place to take a dip this year, thanks to the pandemic.
The Homer-Center Recreation & Parks Department has announced that the popular Homer City Community Pool will not open until July 1st at the earliest, and that the board of directors will monitor the safety risks to determine if it’s going to open then.
The Saltsburg Community Pool has already announced that it will not open this year, due in part to the pandemic and the regulations that would need to be followed, and because of finances. They have not been able to sell season passes, donations are down, and fundraisers are very difficult to do. Officials say the pool needs some updates, so they have decided to take the summer to work on it, and they encourage donors to support the pool.
Mack Park Pool’s opening has also been delayed. Eric Neal of the YMCA said that the pool will not open as originally scheduled, but they are trying to determine when they can open the pool, and as of today, they do not have a date yet. Mack Park Pool was originally scheduled to open this Saturday.
