The founding dean of IUP’s proposed college of osteopathic medicine recently served on the planning committee on healthcare training and affordability for the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine.
The academies advise the nation on issues related to science and technology. In a statement, Rose said that serving on the board was an “incredible opportunity to share our plans for the proposed college of osteopathic medicine with members of the National Academies,” and it also allowed them to get suggestions and ideas on the next steps that are needed for the school to become a reality. The workshop series addressed topics including costs of health education, impacts of cost on intentions to enter primary care and other fields.
The proposed college has “Candidate Status” from the national accrediting commission and in December, IUP’s Council of Trustees approved the creation of the Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine Program.
