The Pirates lost to Baltimore, 7-2, spoiling a strong start for non-roster invitee Noah Davis. He gave up a three-run home run to Taylor Ward in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. Altoona first baseman Nick Cimillo hit a homer for the Bucs in the ninth.

At the World Baseball Classic, Team USA needed Italy to beat Mexico in order to make it out of pool play and into the elimination round. The Americans got their wish as Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino hit three home runs in a 9-1 Italy win.
Team USA will play Canada tomorrow in the quarterfinals. Italy will play Puerto Rico. The Dominican Republic faces Korea, and Japan takes on Venezuela.
