UPDATE AT NOON: At this time, over 2400 Penelec customers and close to 1000 REA Energy Cooperative members remain without power. While there is no timeline for restoration, repair efforts were hampered as crews were unable to safely use bucket trucks during last night’s high winds. Both companies are still working towards total restoration.
WHAT WAS FIRST REPORTED:
Yesterday’s high winds have caused power outages that are lingering into this morning.
As of this morning, over 3000 Penelec customers remain without power. Most of those are in Rayne Township (627), Montgomery Township (255) and Marion Center Borough (241). About 7.9% of Penelec’s customers in Indiana County are waking up without power.
REA Energy Cooperative is also reporting widespread outages in its service area. 1,294 cooperative members are waking up without power this morning.
Most of the damage is coming from trees or high winds bringing down the power lines. Crews from both companies are continuing to work to bring power back online. No word on when electricity will be restored.
