SOFTBALL
Homer-Center outslugged River Valley, 10-6. Jo Howard had three hits for the Wildcats, and Bekah Marshall, Bri Birchall, Isabelle Rowland, and Kaylee Booth all had two. Maddie Twinchek and Sara Bollinger each had three hits for the Panthers. Homer-Center had 14 hits and River Valley 11.
United and Northern Cambria were tied 2-2 when Preslee Campbell’s RBI groundout brought home the winning run in the 7th inning for a 3-2 Lions win. Ella Worthington threw a complete game, striking out 15 and giving up two runs on three hits. Quinn Bernecky had two hits, including a solo homer in the first for Northern Cambria, and she stole three bases. Worthington and Kenedi Fiochetta had two hits for United. Fiochetta also handled 16 error-free chances in the field.
West Shamokin scored eight runs in the bottom of the first and sprinted away from Marion Center, 10-0 in five. Avery Elkin paced the Wolves with two hits, Cameron Vandervort and Briar McClafferty each drove in two runs, and in the circle, Leah Mondi struck out seven Stingers.
Six girls each had a hit and Purchase Line’s Rylee Mahaffey struck out 14 in a complete game 6-0 shutout of Penns Manor.
Trailing 8-7 heading into the 7th inning, Portage rallied for a 10-8 come-from-behind win over Cambria Heights. Reese Pinozotto homered and doubled and drove in four runs for the Mustangs, and Chloe Trusik had four hits, Adasyn Trusik had three hits, and Kiera McCarty homered. Portage had 13 hits. Brea Kountz had two hits for the Highlanders and Rachel Nelen drove in four runs.
Conemaugh Valley blistered Conemaugh Township, 14-0.
BASEBALL
Homer-Center’s Dom Shimko went six-and-two-thirds innings, struck out 12, and gave up just one run on three hits as the Wildcats topped River Valley, 4-1. Brayden Rado, Drew Fisher, and Eli Turk all had two hits and Fisher drove in two runs. Landon Cecconi had all three of River Valley’s hits.
United jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first but Northern Cambria came back for a 6-3 win over the Lions. Parker Shutty had three hits and Brady Hoover two for the Colts. Brendan James had two hits for United. Hoover threw six-and-a-third shutout innings of relief for NC, striking out 14 and walking none while giving up just two hits.
Luke McCullough threw a five-inning no-hitter and West Shamokin scored 4 runs in each of the first two innings on the way to a 12-0 win over Marion Center. McCullough struck out five and walked five. Kash Julius, Ben McConnell, Carter Myers, and JJ Cessna all had two hits for the Wolves and Julius and Cessna each drove in three runs.
Cambria Heights pushed across a run in the bottom of the 7th to beat Portage, 11-10. Carson Lobick had four hits, Maverick Dutko and Harrison Snyder each had three, and Anthony Swander had two for the Highlanders. Dom Berardinelli had four hits for the Mustangs, and the Slanoc brothers, Easton and Owen, each had three, with Easton hitting a home run and driving in six runs.
