BASEBALL
In a matchup of two teams sporting 10-0 Heritage Conference records, Conemaugh Township scored four runs in the bottom of the first and shut down Northern Cambria’s bats for a 9-1 win. Bryce Conn and Gabe Valentine each homered and drove in three runs and Valentine also tripled. Greyson Studer, Colin Dinyar, and DJ Bambino each also had two hits. For the Colts, Zach Cavallo, Zak Kirsch, and Braden Bougher all had two hits.
Homer-Center jumped to a 9-0 lead and brought home an 11-2 win over Penns Manor. Drew Fisher had a big day with three hits, including a double, and he drove in five runs. Nash Budner, Dom Shimko, and Collin Dunn all had two hits and Brayden Rado gave up one earned run over six innings, striking out eight, with Fisher finishing up in the seventh. For Penns Manor, Tyler Cooper and Drew Valazak each had two hits.
Marion Center scored six runs in the first on the way to a 14-4 five-inning win over Purchase Line. Trent Slovinsky had two hits and drove in three runs and Brady Haggerty drove in four for the Stingers, who took advantage of four errors and nine walks by Purchase Line.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, United scored two runs to grab a 2-1 win over Cambria Heights. Ryan Felix had a hit and drove in both of the Lions’ runs. Carter Orosz and Ty Gwizdak each had two hits for Heights. Braden Butler threw six innings for the win for United while Connor Darr got the save. Bryce Lewis pitched well for the Highlanders, tossing six innings and striking out seven.
Portage belted Conemaugh Valley, 12-0 in four. Easton Slanoc had three hits and drove in three runs for the Mustangs and seven other players each had a hit, while Nathan Phillips threw a four-inning no-hitter, striking out four and walking two.
SOFTBALL
Lillian Stauffer and Kaitlynn Houser each had three hits and homered as Purchase Line shut out Marion Center 8-0. Freshmen Aunika Brooks and Julia Matko each had two hits for the Red Dragons and Rylee Mahaffey scattered seven hits and struck out 12 in the circle. For the Stingers, Ella Gaston and Hannah Runk each had two hits.
Homer-Center scored three runs in the top of the seventh, then held off Penns Manor after the Comets had scored four in the bottom of the inning for a 6-5 Wildcats victory. Khylee Beer had three hits, with a home run and a double, and she drove in two runs, and Taicha Bartlebaugh had three hits, and Bri Birchall two for Homer-Center. Bekah Marshall struck out eleven for HC. Penns Manor provided no stats.
United’s Ella Worthington struck out seventeen batters and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run as the Lions beat Cambria Heights, 4-3 in eight innings. Peyton Thomas and Preslee Campbell each drove in runs for United. Margaret Elias had two hits with a triple and she drove in two runs for the Highlanders. Rylee Lane struck out fourteen for Heights.
Conemaugh Valley crushed Portage 19-7. Kendal Wessell had three hits, with two doubles and six RBIs. Kendra Dietz and Megan Bilak each had two hits, while Reese Pinizotto was 3-for-3 for Portage and she and Mikaila McCoy each drove in three runs. McCoy hit a solo home run.
