The Indiana County Commissioners this morning honored the history-making United Lions boys basketball team, which advanced to the state semifinals in the PIAA Boys AA championship. The announcement by commissioners Mike Keith, Sherene Hess, and Bonni Dunlap acknowledged the Lions for winning their first 30 games, advancing to the Class AA Final Four and coming up just one game shy of playing for the state championship. They lost to Old Forge in the semifinal, but not before first winning the Heritage Conference title, District 6 championship, and three wins in the state tournament, the first three state playoff wins in school history.
United Coach Matt Rodkey expressed pride in his team.
The 30 wins tied the 1993 Blairsville Bobcats for the most win by an Indiana County High School Basketball team in history.
