A nighttime paving project begins on Monday in Blairsville Borough. Workers will be patching and paving on Walnut Street between the Route 217 bridge at the Indiana/Westmoreland county line to the Route 22 interchange, and they will also resurface the on-and-off ramps at the Route 119/22 interchange. Drainage and guiderails are also planned.
The work will be done between 6 PM and 5 AM nightly, weather permitting, from Monday through May 15th, with single-lane restrictions controlled by flaggers. It’s part of a $3.1 million project that includes additional locations in Indiana County.
Geotechnical “core boring” begins Tuesday on Route 119 in Rayne Township. There will be flagger-controlled single-lane restrictions as needed on the highway between Craig Road and Washington Road. Core boring is a sampling technique used to research mineral resources in the subsoil. Cylinder-shaped holes will be drilled to extract rock and soil.
The scheduled work is weather permitting. It should wrap up by May 15th.
PennDOT also will hold a public plans display on Wednesday for the Routes 22 and 403 Park & Ride Project in East Wheatfield Township. The display will describe the scope of the work. The price tag for the park-&-ride lot was estimated at about $1.5 million when originally proposed. It is scheduled to be put out for bids next January.
