Chalk up another series win for the Pirates with their victory over Houston last night, and a milestone for Jared Jones, his first win since his return from elbow surgery.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Donnie Kelly says the Pirates were good in all three aspects of the game.
Kelly says there was a noticeable difference for Jones, from his first start last week and from the first inning last night.
Carmen Mlodzinski returned to the mound with a four-inning relief outing, and Kelly says he gave the team a big lift.
It’s a daunting road trip for the Bucs as they move on to Atlanta to take on the Braves, who have the best record in baseball. Mitch Keller (5-2, 4.35 ERA) faces a former Pirate, lefthander Martín Perez (3-3, 2.57 ERA) tonight. The airtime is 6:50, with a 7:15 first pitch on WCCS.
The Pirates yesterday traded Indianapolis reliever Joe La Sorsa to the Red Sox for cash. They had to trade him or lose him to free agency after he triggered the Upward Mobility Clause in his contract last Sunday. The veteran, who’s played for the Rays, Nationals, and Reds, was 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA at Indy.
