The Pirates played their first-ever game in Sacramento last night and the A’s feasted on Bucco pitching.
Joe Block has the recap.
Manager Donnie Kelly says the Pirates, who have now lost eight of their last ten games and are now one game under .500, have to keep fighting to break out of their slump.
The Pirates have picked up an offensive spark at catcher, where Endy Rodriguez has been seeing an increased workload. Kelly says he’s swinging a hot bat.
In tonight’s second game of the series, Mitch Keller (5-4, 5.14 ERA) goes for the Pirates against the A’s Jack Perkins (2-3, 6.25 ERA). Airtime is 9:15, first pitch at 9:40 on WCCS.
Khristian Curtis’s Triple-A debut for Indianapolis last Friday was so impressive, MLB Pipeline placed him on this week’s “Prospect Team of the Week.” Curits was promoted from the Altoona Curve after making twelve starts there and he threw five-and-two-thirds one-hit shutout innings, striking out ten and walking two in an Indy win over Columbus.
Curtis was the Pirate’s 12th-round draft pick in 2023 after having two elbow surgeries in college, when doctors feared he might lose the use of his arm due to severe nerve damage.
