Altoona finished up Wednesday’s rain-suspended game against Akron, taking a two-run lead into the bottom of the tenth inning but giving up three to the Rubberducks and losing 10-9. The Curve had a chance to win in the ninth, but a potential game-winning double-play ball was thrown away for an error that allowed the tying run to score. Emmanuel Chapman gave up four runs, two earned, and took the loss as he and Brandon Neeck walked three straight batters to force in the game-winning run.
Omar Alfonzo hit two home runs in that game and then he hit another in the regularly scheduled game, going 2-for-3 with a three-run dinger in a 4-1 Curve win. Lefty Connor Oliver made his second Double-A start and threw five scoreless despite giving up three hits and five walks.
The series continues tonight with left-hander Connor Wietgrefe getting the start.
