Coach Paul Tortorella’s 25th-ranked IUP Crimson Hawks open their football season a week from tonight at 13th-ranked Ashland, and they held a scrimmage yesterday. Tort said it was what you would expect for an intrasquad scrimmage…when the offense does well, you complain about the defense, and vice versa.
He says it’s hard to figure what kind of game to expect next week.
While he said it’s been a good training camp, there are a lot of unknowns with this IUP team, which doesn’t have a lot of experience.
Tortorella has a large group of first-year players fresh out of high school, and he says that in today’s college football environment, those youngsters are going to see a lot of playing time.
IUP is rebuilding its defensive line this season, with only one returnee, but they have a lot of talent to choose from.
There are two games involving PSAC teams happening tonight. Seton Hill will host East Stroudsburg and Slippery Rock will open at home against Minnesota Duluth.
