On a day when the Pirates placed All-Star Braxton Ashcraft on the injured list with arm discomfort, they needed some good news on the mound. Jared Jones certainly answered the call.

Jones says he was prepared to fight to stay in the game if he’d still had a no-hitter after seven.
With Ashcraft out, the Pirates will use a bullpen game to open their series against the Cubs today. Airtime is 1:55 on WCCS.
Ryan O’Hearn was not in the lineup for Indianapolis yesterday in their 8-0 loss to Omaha, which indicates that he could be activated by the Pirates in time to play today against the Cubs.
