After a weekend of rest and preparation, the next “superload” of electric-generating equipment headed for the Homer City Generation Energy Campus is expected to start its journey from the Schenley dock in Allegheny County tomorrow, with no changes from the first load last week. The only anticipated difference is that there will likely not be as many spectators checking it out.
Edwards Moving & Rigging plans to move out at 9 AM, navigate the curve in Leechburg about ninety minutes later, and travel Route 66 to the Delmont interchange at Route 22, continuing to the Westmoreland/Indiana County line near Blairsville. There it will pull off the highway at a staging area for the installation of additional equipment, then resume at 7 PM along Route 22, moving to the next staging area along Route 119 at very slow speed. After an overnight stay, the trip will continue at 9 AM Tuesday, making its way to Campbell’s Mill Road, Blacklick Road, and on to the energy campus.
With no passing permitted, drivers on Route 22 west of the county line will detour into Blairsville, and east of the county line, drivers can expect a rolling slowdown while the superload is crossing the bridge over the Conemaugh River.
The operation may be affected by adverse weather. A total of 53 superload deliveries are scheduled between now and January, some of them by rail but most by truck.
