The Steelers today hold their first practice of the week for Sunday’s game at Tampa Bay. The biggest question marks will be whether or not injured defensive backs DeShon Elliott and Jamel Dean can go full speed. Elliott has not played yet this season as he recovers from a knee injury. Dean turned an ankle two games ago in Cleveland.
Coach Mike McCarthy will also be searching for answers in his receiver corps. Rookie Germie Bernard will take Roman Wilson’s place and they will have to piece together the rest from the practice squad, or even use rookie Eli Heidenreich, who was drafted as a “running back/wide receiver” in the seventh round this year. At any rate, expect quarterback Aaron Rodgers to look even more for tight ends Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, and Robert Tonyan.
Running back Rico Dowdle is also expected to ramp up his activity as he returns from a dislocated toe.
And linebacker Elandon Roberts will take part in his first practice since re-signing to the practice squad.
