Thursday night, the Homer-Center School Board heard a presentation from Smith Bus Lines, the district’s transportation provider.
One of the topics covered was the increasing cost of diesel fuel. The district does have a locked-in rate for this year at $2.80 a gallon before prices skyrocketed. Those costs are being mitigated as the district does have three out of the five 72-passenger buses powered by propane, which is significantly cheaper. Superintendent Ralph Cecere says they may consider switching more buses over to propoane.
The board approved the behavioral health professional services agreement with Adelphoi Education for the 2026-27 school year, which is being funded by a $115,000 grant from Staunton Farms Foundation. The board also approved a modified schedule for the elementary grade levels, making up for days missed at the start of the year due to mold found in the building. The days added to the elementary schedule include the Monday after Thanksgiving and two in-service days later in the year. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Tuesday after Easter are make-up days for both the elementary and high school. Cecere said that both schools are committed to ending the school year on June 4th.
