A public forum is scheduled on Tuesday at IUP’s Hadley Union Building to discuss orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells. It’s a town hall meeting put on by Union Energy PA and the Indiana Armstrong Central Labor Council.
Pennsylvania has proposed spending $19 million to accelerate well plugging efforts of the state’s estimated 700,000 abandoned oil and gas wells, “many of which leak methane, threaten water quality, and pose ongoing public health and environmental risks,” according to the event’s organizers.
Union Energy’s partners include the Pennsylvania chapters of the AFL-CIO, the Building and Construction Trades Council, the Climate Jobs National Resource Center, Cornell University. Its 2026 Four-County Initiative prioritizes Delaware, Lancaster, Indiana, and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania.
Angela Ferritto, Unon Energy PA’s secretary-treasurer and the president of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, will be on Indiana In the Morning tomorrow at 9:10 AM on WCCS to talk about the town hall, which is in the HUB Susquehanna Room at six o’clock.
