The District 6 football playoffs have arrived and we have games covering three classifications on our Renda Media network of stations tonight.
On WCCS and Renda Digital TV, it’s a Class A matchup between second-seeded Homer-Center and number seven West Branch. The Wildcats are 8-2 and the Warriors are 4-6 and jumped up into the number seven slot from number ten with their win last week.
Homer-Center coach Greg Page says the Wildcats have to be ready right from the opening kickoff.
Page says his guys had better be ready for West Branch.
West Branch coach Kenn Vandevander admires the Homer-Center program and knows it won’t be easy tonight.
Vandevander says paying attention to the basics will be a key to the game.
On Cat Country 106.3 FM and Renda Digital TV, it’s a Double-A rematch of two of the top teams in the Heritage Conference. 8-2 River Valley beat 7-3 Marion Center, 21-14 just two weeks ago.
The Panthers have lost three straight first-round playoff games, but coach Ed Dalton believes they can break that streak and go even farther, and more.
Dalton says the two teams know each other well, and they know themselves, too.
Stingers coach Adam Rising says his team has lots of playoff experience, and he’s hoping it serves them well.
Rising says the familiarity of the two teams adds an interesting element to tonight’s game.
On a special Renda Digital TV broadcast, it’s a true neighborhood rivalry, with a Triple-A semifinal matchup of undefeated second seed Cambria Heights and third-seeded 8-2 Central Cambria.
Highlanders coach Jarrod Lewis says the Red Devils are turning up the intensity late in the season.
Lewis says it’s an evenly-matched game and the Highlanders will need to be sharp.
Central Cambria coach Wade Klezak is looking forward to finally having the two schools duke it out on the football field.
Klezak says they’ll be paying special attention to Height’s QB Nolan Clawson.
On 92.5 FM U92 tonight, it’s a radio-only game between top Class-A seed Bishop Guilfoyle, at 9-1, and number eight Northern Cambria, which is 4-6.
Colts coach Sam Shutty says his guys believe in themselves.
Shutty says his players remember playing BG two years ago in the District 6 championship game at Mansion Park in Altoona.
Marauders coach Justin Wheeler isn’t taking Northern Cambria lightly.
Wheeler says they have to be aware of the Colts’ Zak Kirsch, who is a beast on defense.
The rest of the action in Class A includes Juniata Valley at Moshannon Valley and Bishop McCort hosting Glendale.
In Double-A, top seed Mount Union will welcome Penns Valley. Richland will host Southern Huntingdon. Bald Eagle is at Bellwood-Antis.
Only four teams are playing in Triple-A. The winner between Cambria Heights and Central Cambria will play at Mansion Park for the championship next week against the winner between Central (Martinsburg) and Philipsburg-Osceola.
The airtime for the Homer-Center/West Branch, River Valley/Marion Center, and Cambria Heights/Central Cambria games is six o’clock tonight. For Northern Cambria/Bishop Guilfoyle, it’s 6:30.
