The new date for Ronald Weiss’s sentencing has been set. The twice-convicted murderer of 16-year-old Barbara Bruzda is due before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco on November 20th, which is a week from this Friday.
Weiss was found guilty by an Indiana County Court jury on August 27th. His original conviction for the October, 1978 murder was in 1997, but a federal judge in 2018 threw out that verdict on a claim of prosecutorial misconduct by the State Attorney General’s office.
The retrial only occurred after the State Supreme Court upheld Judge Bianco’s ruling that the issue of Weiss’s guilt or innocence was a separate matter from the behavior of the prosecutor.
Weiss is 78 years old. He was 30 when the murder occurred.
