Despite being called a “menace to society” by Westmoreland County prosecutors when he was sentenced to prison this month, Ray Shetler Jr. has filed a request for “special parole and probation supervision” with the county court, hoping for early release.
The 39-year-old New Florence man was ordered to serve 1 to 2 years in prison plus two years of probation, with 399 days credit for time already served for aggravated assault, disarming a police officer, and resisting arrest. Shelter was found guilty in connection with a brawl in December of 2021 when officers found him hiding at his girlfriend’s home after he’d skipped a probation hearing. Shetler was acquitted of murder charges after he shot to death St. Clair Township police officer Lloyd Reed Jr. in 2015, but he was found guilty of theft for stealing a truck in his escape attempt after killing Reed.
The request for special probation and parole supervision was filed on January 19th.
